On Wednesday through Friday, students will watch the movie Hidden Figures. Math plays a starring role in this movie along with the vertical motion model. The 8th graders participated in two science labs this week.  First, they created electromagnets to discover the relationship between electricity and magnets.  This type of magnet is able to be turned on and off and is found in many common everyday items, such as traffic lights, speakers, the alternator of a car, and some doorbells. The students also created parallel and series circuits to better learn about their set up and the differences between them. (See the photos below.)  Their Electricity Report Project Paper, which counts as a test grade and a homework grade, is due on or before the end of school Monday, 5/13. (These reports need to be PRINTED OUT when turned in.) Information went home on Monday, 4/29 and the rubric is also posted on Google Classroom. We also spent class time on Monday, 5/6 working on their reports.  Next week, we will finish up our information on magnets and have a magnet lab to learn about how various materials affect how magnets work and also make temporary magnets. At the end of the week, we will begin our study guide for the 3rd Trimester exam. The 8th grade science exam will be Tuesday, 5/21 at 8:30am. This last exam will cover all of the topics this marking period:  waves, sound, EM spectrum, light, electricity and magnetism.

The 7th grade students have been doing a wonderful job working in groups to research and develop google slides, review handouts, activities and study guides for some of our remaining body systems. The topics are the digestive system, nervous system, respiratory system and the five senses. Each group has been answering a list of guiding questions to use in creating their lesson. This group project will count as one test grade and one classwork grade.  All of these groups will present and “teach” these lessons to the other students in their class next week from Monday, 5/13 through Thursday, 5/16. As the lessons are presented, the other students will take notes from the slides, complete a review handout/ worksheet, participate in an activity/ game and be given a study guide to help learn the information.  (Each student will have already been learning the information from their own group topic as they completed their research and created their lesson.) We will spend time on Friday, May 20th and Monday, May 23rd reinforcing all of this information, including reviewing all of the study guides. Our seventh grade third trimester exam will be on Wednesday, May 22nd at 8:30am and will only cover topics from the second half of this trimester.   These topics will be the following body systems: skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory, nervous and the five senses.
