Algebra I - Mr. Scordato
We will continue our study of Expressions, Equations, and Functions in Chapter 1. The students will learn more about Functions with an introduction from one of my favorite YouTube math videos Meat-A-Morphosis. We also wanted to make you aware that we will be starting an after-school math team.

Advanced Algebra - Mr. Lanfear
Next week in Advanced Algebra, we will continue the first part of Chapter 10 by learning how to graph quadratic functions and find the vertex and axis of symmetry (10.2).  We will also learn how to solve equations by graphing and using our graphing calculators (10.3), so it is very important to have them charged!  There will be a quiz on Friday covering 10.1-10.2.

Geometry - Mr. Lanfear
Next week in Geometry, we will continue Chapter 2 by learning about the law of detachment and the law of syllogism (2.3), using postulates and diagrams to answer questions (2.4), and we will be introduced to the concept of proofs (2.5-2.6).  There will be a quiz on Wednesday covering 2.1-2.3.

Physical Science - Ms. G
Please click here to view our Weekly Overview as we enter Foundations of Chemistry & Classifying Matter.

ELA - Ms. Hall

After completing their grammar assessment, students have taken notes on the six steps of writing that we’ll utilize in-class all year long. Using these steps, students have started brainstorming and researching the newly re-written Animal Farm summer reading prompts. As we head into the next week, we’ll be completing the steps of outlining and creating a rough/final draft.

US History - Mr. Saviskas
We are nearly done with Animal Farm. We have talked about it all week and how it relates to the Russian Revolution. Our class has slowed down a little bit so we are pushing our government lecture to next week. Starting Monday we should be starting our discussion on the purpose of government and how it functions.

High School Spanish - Mr. De Cardenas
The mastery of the new grammar tense shown by the students is impressive and sets a terrific scenario for a successful school year in Spanish language. Next week we will start a new content which is the Present Progressive Tense conditioned by the modal verbs for which we will remember the use of these special verbs and how they can modify the Present Progressive Tense statement. This will allow the students to have a better understanding of the language and to increase even more their talkative skills.

Pre-Algebra - Mr. Lanfear

Next week in Pre-Algebra, we will complete Chapter 1 by having a day of review on Tuesday and the Chapter 1 test on Wednesday.  We will then begin Chapter 2 by learning about the commutative property, associative property, and the identity property of addition and multiplication (2.1).  We are very excited to welcome Chris Hoover, a financial advisor with Edward Jones, to come speak to us about the stock market and investments on Thursday!

Life Science - Ms. G
Please click here to view our Weekly Overview as we dive into classification and microscopes. We will have a Microscope Practical (quiz grade!) Friday, September 6th.

Life Science - Mrs. Swanner
Happy Labor Day weekend! Next week, we will begin the Exploring Life lesson, where we will learn about the history of the microscope and different types of microscopes. We will also continue our discussion of proper microscope etiquette, and there is a microscope practical quiz next week on the 6th.

ELA - Ms. Ferkol

This coming week, we will continue to dive into our writing unit practicing writing thesis statements and breaking down essential parts of an essay. To finish out the week, we will finally begin writing our first full essay using the Evidence-Based Writing skills to develop specific and detailed accounts surrounding the themes displayed in our summer reading novels! This unit, students will take notes and complete work in an interactive notebook; this notebook will be submitted at the end of the writing unit for a quiz grade (change from last week!), so it is important that students are intentional about participating in class and ensuring their notes are an accurate reflection of both their understanding and our discussions in class!

ELA - Ms. Hall
Students have begun studying the process of Evidence-Based Writing, specifically working towards digging deeper when analyzing themes of novels that we’ll be studying together. Students will continue working in their interactive notebooks, which are meant to reflect their involvement in-class while supporting their autonomy as learners as we continue growing their writing skills.

American History - Mr. O’Hayer

Next week in American History we will complete our study of the Age of Exploration by completing our biographies of a famous explorer. We will then move on to the creation and development of the American Colonies. Our project that relates to this unit is a student favorite- creating their colony.

American History- Mr. Saviskas
We started our lesson on the Age of Exploration last week, covering the reasons why Europeans wanted to explore and what countries sent them out into the world. This coming week we are going to look in depth to the first explorers to land in the New World. We will also be gearing up for our first project, the Colony Creation Project! I hope to cover the details of that on Friday and begin working on it the following week.

Advanced Spanish - Mr. Jones

Now that we’ve completed a comprehensive review of fundamentals that were covered in 6th grade, next week we will begin using our communicative textbook to begin developing more advanced language skills. We will do this by engaging in activities such as spontaneous call and response games to enhance our knowledge of verbal and written communication. This unit will build on previously learned knowledge; however, it is essential for them to review concepts frequently at home to ensure understanding as we are building more into depth of language rather than basic recall skills.

Advanced Spanish - Mr. De Cardenas

The mastery of the new content shown by the students is impressive and sets a terrific background for a successful school year in Spanish language. Next week we will continue with the Unit 2 specifically seeing the following topics:

  • Introducing yourself and others. (Presentaciones)

  • Talking about age. (Hablando de la edad)

With the mastery of these two topics the students will considerably increase their conversational range adding to their knowledge more vocabs and communicative functions.

Accelerated Math - Mr. Scordato

We will continue our study of Number Sense, Patterns, and Algebraic Thinking in Chapter 1. The students will learn more about Area & Perimeter. We will also focus on problem-solving using logic and through writing algebraic equations. We are excited to share that we will be starting an after-school math team.

World History - Mr. O’Hayer
Next week in World History students will travel to Athens to discover all the amazing contributions found in this ancient city. We will break down how the Athenians developed democracy and how it relates to our country today. Students will also begin their first major project in WH: Writing a biography on a Greek god/goddess. Enjoy the long weekend.

Intro to Spanish - Mr. Jones
Next week we will work toward completing our first unit. We will be working on understanding instructions being given in Spanish as well as learning the vocabulary to have discussions in Spanish about nationality, age, and origin. The goal for this week is to prepare ourselves for a project that will come the following week which will act as review for the upcoming unit test.

Healthy start in the studio with students embracing change through color. Shifts in schedule, position, and place are relatable adjustments. Students will continue this concept next week as they take a deeper dive into value application. Sixth graders will apply the cross-hatching method, Seventh will apply the blending method and Eighth graders will apply variations in value and perspective. Thank you for the tennis balls for the new studio stools!!
