Algebra I - Mr. Scordato
We move on next week to a more in-depth study on linear function with real-world examples. Students will also have their first test on Friday 9/13.

Advanced Algebra - Mr. Lanfear
Next week in Advanced Algebra, we will complete the first part of Chapter 10 by learning how to use our calculators to find the maximum or minimum of quadratic functions (10.3) as well as practicing using the vertical motion model to find the heights of free-falling objects.  There will be a day of review on Thursday and the 10.1-10.3 test on Friday.

Geometry - Mr. Lanfear
Next week in Geometry, we will continue Chapter 2 by learning how to do our first proofs!  We will first learn how to do proofs using something we are very familiar with - Algebra (2.5)!  Then, we will do our first Geometry proofs about line segments (2.6) and angle relationships (2.7).  This will get us ready for the Chapter 2 test the following Tuesday.

Physical Science - Ms. G
Please click here to view our Weekly Overview as we work through Classifying Matter & The Periodic Table. Our next quiz is Friday, September 13th!

ELA - Ms. Hall

Students have done a fabulous job learning and moving through the six steps of five-paragraph writing to complete their Animal Farm summer reading essay! Next week, we will start discussing and exploring together the background information necessary to begin our unit on To Kill a Mockingbird. This will start with a graded anticipation guide before moving into some in-class reading and analysis tasks.

US History - Mr. Saviskas
We have completed Animal Farm and talked about the life of George Orwell. Next week we’ll be starting with a quiz over our Animal Farm material. I will be providing the notes and a study guide so students can review. After the quiz we will be covering the intended purpose of government and how it functions at a basic level. Then we will move onto the differences between Authoritarianism and Liberalism.

High School Spanish - Mr. De Cardenas
I am very excited to see all the engagement of the students and their commitment to learn new grammar contents and to improve their talkative skills in Spanish. Next week we will continue with the Unit 2: Present Progressive Tense Modified by the modal verbs with the practice of different kind of interactional activities which include reading and listening comprehension exercises such as a Speaking class to ultimately give the students the opportunity to demonstrate they are able to communicate their own thoughts in Spanish using the new content they learned. It is gonna be challenging but super fun.

Algebra I - Mr. Scordato
We move on next week to a more in-depth study on linear function with real-world examples. Students will also have their first test on Friday 9/13. On a lighter note, students have discovered my love of a British game show called Countdown where they play along as contestants solve both word puzzles and target number problems. They may have also found my math music video, and they said they will help me make new ones…stay tuned!

Pre-Algebra - Mr. Lanfear
Next week in Pre-Algebra, we will continue Chapter 2 by learning how to perform the distributive property to make multiplying large numbers easier and how to apply it to variables (2.2).  We will also learn about the different parts of an expression like coefficients, like terms, and constant terms, and how to simplify variable expressions by combining like terms (2.3).  There will be a day of review on Friday and the 2.1-2.3 quiz the following Monday.  On Monday, students will be given an outline that will list the various topics covered by the Math Facts Quiz which will be on Friday.

Life Science - Ms. G
Please click here to view our Weekly Overview as we learn about bacteria and the importance of bacteria in our daily lives.

Life Science - Mrs. Swanner
Next week, we will begin our study of some of the smallest living things: bacteria!

ELA - Ms. Ferkol

We’ve had another wonderful week in ELA! Students got to engage in some great work with refreshing and developing their writing skills. As we move into the next week, students will be working on their summative assessment essay for this unit. This essay will be focused on the summer reading novel, Adventures of a Girl Called Bicycle, and allow students to demonstrate their ability to identify a theme portrayed in the novel and support that claim through the use of evidence and personal, analytical commentary. It is anticipated that this writing assignment will be turned in on Friday, September 13th; however, depending on the writing process this deadline is flexible!

ELA - Ms. Hall
After having a chance to study together the process of analysis and theme-finding, our class will spend time continuing the process of Evidence-Based Writing. This will be in the form of practicing creating an essay over our summer reading novels! Students will be instructed step-by-step on how to create strong body paragraphs, as we continue to delve deeper into writing and exploration of textual themes.

American History - Mr. O’Hayer

Next week in American History we will dive deep into Ch. 3: English Colonies Take Shape. This is a very important chapter that details the creation of the Colonies. It sets the stage for how this country developed and what hurdles has to be crossed in creating this country. We will also begin our next project: Building a Colony From Scratch.

American History- Mr. Saviskas
At the end of last week we talked about European exploration and initial colonization. This week we will be starting the Create a Colony Project! This project will allow students to come together and build a colony so that they can begin to understand the challenges the early American colonies faced. This will be a fun project! I am so excited to see what the kids come up with.

Advanced Spanish - Mr. Jones

Come Monday, 9 September students will begin working in tandem with our new textbook. 7th grade will use the book supplementarily so as to enable adjustment into higher level content. Expect lots of interaction and classwork grades to come! Students will look to Google Classroom for HW assignments that will often come from our book and so it’s important that they maintain our two packets in the proper locations in their Spanish binders: Notes & Classwork.

X + 1 = Fluency

Advanced Spanish - Mr. De Cardenas

I am very excited to see all the engagement of the students and their commitment to learn new grammar contents and to improve their talkative skills in Spanish. Next week as we continue to cover the Curriculum we will start learning how to talk about the age in Spanish making special emphasis in the use of the action verb tener to refer to someone's age and the difference for this between English and Spanish. We will also be having interactional classes to empower the students on using their conversational skills to communicate and express their own thoughts in Spanish.

Accelerated Math - Mr. Scordato

Students will continue to focus on thinking of math as a language as we work on translating sentences and real-world scenarios into equations that they will then solve algebraically. We will continue our mystery number problem scavenger hunt based on problems that they created and which their classmates will solve.  Students will also have their first test on Thursday 9/13. You may have heard the 6th grade students sing a song about ratios from my math music video, and we will study the subject of ratios in more detail later in the year, but they certainly are curious already.

Earth Science - Mrs. Swanner
Next week, we will begin our study of weather.

ELA - Ms. Ferkol
Students are doing a wonderful job as they begin to dive into the foundational skills of Evidence Based Writing! By practicing skills such as thesis writing and developing evidence-based commentary in class, students are setting themselves up to demonstrate their knowledge of these skills in a summative essay based on their summer reading novel, 6th Grade Nickname Game. This essay will begin next week and take us about a week in and out of class to complete. It is imperative that students are present for class time as this is where they will receive one-on-one conferencing and peer editing on their essays.

World History - Mr. O’Hayer
Next week in World History students will travel to Athens to discover all the amazing contributions this City-State gave the ancient world. We will continue studying Greece by traveling to Sparta to see how these folks did things. The kids will surely see a city-state different from Athens.

Intro to Spanish - Mr. Jones
Students will work toward wrapping up Unit 1 material by completing a project the coming next. A rubric will be provided come Monday and ideally students will enjoy this both creative and interactive assignment!

X + 1 = Fluency

Students have established two projects at each    grade level that have prepared them for next week's lessons. Sixth grade will expand their knowledge of flat geometric and organic shapes to learn value and form.

Seventh grade will carry their knowledge of compact mark making from campus art to large landscapes. Eighth graders will apply their skills of value to create interesting perspectives on the very simplest everyday objects.  Would love 48 tennis balls if you have some that have lost their bounce!
