NJHS News
The NJHS students, along with several 7th grade students, assembled care packages for The Union Mission to help members of the unhoused population in Savannah. Thanks so much to everyone who donated, to all the students who helped collect and pack the items, and to Mrs. Iyer for bringing us this wonderful opportunity!

Tip #9 Exam Wisdom
Before the Exam:
1. “Every time you study, you’re building your brain like a muscle—stronger
and smarter!”
2. “You’ve worked hard, and now it’s time to show what you know. Believe in
yourself!”
3. “Focus on doing your best, not being perfect. Your best is always
enough.”
4. “Think of the test as a puzzle—solve one piece at a time, and you’ll get
there!”
During the Exam:
5. “Breathe in confidence, breathe out doubt. You’ve got this!”
6. “If you get stuck, don’t stress—move on and come back later. You’re in
control.”
7. “Stay calm, stay focused, and keep going. One question at a time.”
8. “Mistakes are okay—they help you grow. Keep trying, and don’t give up!”
After the Exam:
9. “You did your best, and that’s what counts. Be proud of your effort!”
10. “An exam doesn’t define you. It’s one step on your journey, not the whole
story.”
11. “Every challenge you face helps you grow stronger and smarter for the
next one.”
12. “Celebrate your hard work—you’ve earned it, no matter the result.”
Our Virtue of the Month for November and December is community! Consider looking for an opportunity during this time for your family to volunteer together. The United Way of the Coastal Empire has opportunities and Second Harvest allows volunteers ages 12 and up when accompanied by an adult.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have this year. amaher@hancockdayschool.org
Each middle school student is required to complete ten hours of community service over the course of the school year. Please remember to check this area of the blog for opportunities. Click HERE for a log form or see Mrs. Mannarino in the office.
ELA - Ms. Hall
Students have found a nice stopping point half-way through Macbeth. We will pick up reading and analyzing the text when we return from winter break. For the time being, students should be studying and preparing for their exam which will be on Tuesday, 12/17. Students have been administered a study guide and advised on how to prepare. Next week, we will spend Monday reviewing for the exam by reviewing narrative terms before spending the rest of the week testing.
High School Spanish - Mr. De Cardenas
The Semester exam is water under the bridge and the students are ready to have fun with no pressure showing what they have accomplished in class. Next week we will take the time to play some dynamic games which will provide the opportunity for the students to use their Spanish skills for communication. We will recreate hypothetical situations in which the students will engage in conversations using Spanish all the time. This will enforce their knowledge and mastery of the contents we have been covering in class. We will also be working on some listening comprehension exercises which will count as classworks and will be a lot of fun.
Life Science - Ms. Harmon
Next week we will begin our exams on the 1st Trimesters material. Study Guides can be found on google classroom. Students are welcome to visit me for review in the morning at 7:30. If they have a scheduling conflict, they can email me to set aside some other time to review. They can also reach out via email for other inquiries regarding the exam.
ELA - Ms. Ferkol
Students have been given study guides and review materials for their midterm exams which will be the students’ first exam on Thursday, December 18th. Materials have also been posted in Google Classroom to use, such as IXL links to study concepts and practice prompts. While there will be no “formal” ELA homework next week, it is expected that students are spending dedicated time each night reviewing the topics covered in class to be able to follow up with any questions they might have prior to the exam! I will have one review session Wednesday morning at 7:30 am for any last minute questions prior to the exam.
PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENT TO READ AND PRACTICE THE NOTED SKILLS WITH THE STORY LINKED ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM! THIS WILL GREATLY BENEFIT YOUR STUDENT!!!
American History - Mr. O’Hayer
Next week in American History we will continue our exam prep. Students have their study guides and have started preparing for the upcoming history exam. It is so important students review the exam material daily and not wait till the last minute to study.
Advanced Spanish - Mr. Jones
We will continue practicing and reviewing material already learnt next week. Our goal is to allow students to focus intently on their other exams to come rather than introducing new material. More interactive speaking practice will occur in place of written work!
X + 1 = Fluency
Advanced Spanish - Mr. De Cardenas
Upon returning from the holiday break, we will continue working with the prepositions para and porque interactive games. Then, we will continue in Unit 3 using geography and weather as topics of study for vocabulary and cultural exposure to new content. We are working toward the function tener que + infinitivo to express what we have/don’t have to do. Enjoy time with family and friends everyone, gobble gobble!
X + 1 = Fluency
Accelerated Math - Mr. Scordato
Study sessions for the Trimester Exam on Wed 12/18 have already begun. Please know that while a study guide has been made available; other ways that students can study include the following: textbook chapter reviews, IXL practice problems (searchable by topic), and looking in their binder for their guided notes and prior assessments.
Students have applied creative thought and community spirit in the design of cards for P.A.C.K. Encouraging messages from our students to the children were written on the insides of the cards. Seventh grade unites in these patriotic canvases inspired by their singing a few lyrics to sound wave software. Freedom to be diverse yet united!
Next week, we are concluding this month with Snow Globes & Peppermint Camellia’s Good Luck on Exams!
