Service Learning Day
We are excited to inform you about our upcoming Service Learning Day on Friday, February 28th. Our Middle School students will be participating in various community service activities throughout the morning.
Here’s the schedule for the day:
6th Grade: Students will participate in "plarning" (plastic yarn) in the gym from 9:00-10:30 AM to create mats for the homeless.
7th Grade: Students will be in Hancock Hall from 9:30-11:00 AM working with Loop It Up to make book boxes for students.

We are also requesting donations of plastic bags from middle school families to support the 6th grade "plarning" activity. Bags can be brought to Coach Johnson in the gym. Your contributions are greatly appreciated!
Additionally, we need 8th grade parent volunteers to assist with transportation to and from the locations. Click here to view groups for 8th grade and sign up.
After completing their community service activities, the students will resume normal classes and will be dismissed at the usual time via white gate carpool.
Thank you for your support in making this a meaningful day for our students!

#16 Five Good Strategies to Remember as We Approach the End of the Trimester
Review and Reflect
Set aside time to review notes, assignments, and assessments from the trimester.
Reflect on what you have learned and identify areas where you feel confident and areas that may need more attention before finals.
Create a Study Schedule
Organize your study time by creating a schedule that breaks down topics and subjects.
Allocate specific time slots for each subject, ensuring that you cover all material before the end of the trimester.
Use Mind Maps
Create mind maps for each subject to visualize key concepts, relationships, and important details.
This technique helps reinforce your understanding and makes it easier to recall information during reviews.
Practice Active Learning
Engage with the material by summarizing, teaching, or discussing it with classmates.
Use flashcards, quizzes, and practice tests to reinforce your knowledge and assess your readiness for final evaluations.
Stay Organized
Keep all your materials, notes, and assignments in order.
Utilize folders or digital tools to track important dates, deadlines, and what you need to complete before the trimester ends.
By implementing these strategies, students can effectively prepare for the end of the trimester and enhance their learning outcomes.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have this year. amaher@hancockdayschool.org
Each middle school student is required to complete ten hours of community service over the course of the school year. Please remember to check this area of the blog for opportunities. Click HERE for a log form or see Mrs. Mannarino in the office.
Algebra I - Mr. Scordato
Next week, we will be doing the reverse of what students have been working on with multiplying polynomials. We shift our focus to factoring polynomials, especially quadratic trinomials. This week’s lesson includes building blocks for solving quadratic equations this year, as well as what they will be doing in their high school math course.
Advanced Algebra - Mr. Lanfear
Next week in Advanced Algebra, we will complete our unit on angle relationships by learning more about angles formed by parallel lines and transversals (3.3-3.4). We will have a day of review on Wednesday and the Angle Relationships quiz on Thursday. We will then begin our final unit in Geometry by learning about solids and polyhedra (9.1). We will also compete in the Georgia Math League Contest on Tuesday where students will have the opportunity to see Mr. Lanfear’s 8th grade yearbook picture!
Geometry - Mr. Lanfear
Next week in Geometry, we will complete Chapter 9 by having our Chapter 9 test on Monday. We will then begin Chapter 10 by learning about tangent lines (10.1), arc measures (10.2), and chords and inscribed angles (10.3-10.4). We will also compete in the Georgia Math League Contest on Tuesday where students will have the opportunity to see Mr. Lanfear’s 8th grade yearbook picture!
Physical Science - Ms. Harmon

Students have made a lot of progress in the reading and analyzing of the novel Night. Next week, students will finish reading the novel and complete their second round of Empathy journals for a quiz grade. Then, we’ll begin discussing our unit final assessments which will be a blend of writing and art that will hopefully be shared with the community. There will be a test over Night on Thursday, April 6.
US History - Mr. Saviskas
Hello again! We are nearing the end of our Holocaust unit. We plan on finishing up notes and the last worksheets come Monday. We will then spend Tuesday and Wednesday studying and preparing for a test on Thursday, 27th.
High School Spanish - Mr. De Cardenas
I hope you’re doing well! I wanted to take a moment to update you on what’s ahead in our Spanish class for next week. Based on the fantastic feedback from students about our current unit, we are excited to build on this momentum and continue to progress.
Next week, we will shift our focus slightly to enhance speaking skills. We will introduce a variety of activities designed to give students more opportunities to practice speaking in Spanish, which will help strengthen both their fluency and confidence in conversation.
Additionally, we will begin a new unit on the future tense in Spanish. This will be a great chance for students to expand their grammatical knowledge and learn how to apply future tense structures in everyday contexts. I’m confident this will be a rewarding challenge for them as they move forward with their language learning.
Finally, we are wrapping up the book mapping project. The students have done an outstanding job, and the judges will be reviewing the entries to select the winning project. It’s been a fun and creative process, and I look forward to celebrating their hard work!
As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m looking forward to another productive week of learning!
